When running a small business there is a lot of competition. How do potential customers find you on the web? To assert your business as an industry leader, you must be a teacher of sharp and fresh content.
So, what’s in it? Content is a message delivered in various forms of communication. Content appears in the form of articles, videos and blogs that are intended to lure and educate your customers and attract new businesses.
For new small business owners creating great content, here are a few starting points.
Read books and publications about your industry. Research your competitor’s website and find holes in their content. Find out what they don’t say to their customers. Don’t just sell to your customers. Get to know their needs and provide solutions to their problems. Ask probing questions. Give them information about why they pay too much for certain products.
• Attention Headlines
Technology has made us all lack of attention. When people are online, they usually only scan websites. You have a few seconds to get and keep their attention on your website. The title must be tense and honest. For example, I write articles about building authentic personal brands. Instead of a long header, I just asked: “Are you real or fake?” on my headline. I intend to make my readers nervous, and it works.
• Network Conferences and Events
Reading books and publications is a good start, but you must attend events organized by people in your industry with decades of experience. If you are in business, you will still be a student. This event is very helpful because you will be able to meet customers, but you will also be able to generate ideas for videos and articles for your website.
• Social Media Platform
Social Media is a surefire way to reach millions of people in the most cost-effective way. Making use of social media can help if you are strategic in your approach. Join the online community in your industry. Choose two strong social media platforms and learn how to use them. If you have too many platforms, it becomes difficult to maintain dialogue with readers. Perform product testers and gifts to your customers. Engage your customers by asking what content they want to see.
• Audio and video content
Audio content in the form of radio and podcasting. By using a tool like SoundCloud, you can create a podcast. This is a more intimate way to communicate on a small platform. You can also invite guests on your podcast. Video is a way to reach more people and show your face. The popular video platform is YouTube. The disadvantage of the video is that you will open yourself to positive and negative feedback whether it is justified or not.
Remember, content must be updated regularly. When your business and industry changes, there will always be new subjects to write about. If you are passionate about your business, do whatever it takes to stay ahead of what is now.
